Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Our Theater Visit: “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by the White Horse Theatre

On March 20th, our entire school had the opportunity to attend a live performance of the English play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the Stadthalle Obernburg, presented by the renowned White Horse Theatre. Our 12th grade class, along with many others, was taken on a gripping journey into 19th-century London, where the story of Dr. Jekyll’s dark experiment unfolded.

The play explores the internal conflict between good and evil within one person. Dr. Jekyll, a respected scientist, develops a potion that unleashes his darker side – the ruthless and violent Mr. Hyde. As Hyde gains more control, Jekyll loses his grip on reality, leading to a powerful and tragic finale.

The performance captivated us with its dramatic intensity and the outstanding energy of the actors, who brought the story to life with minimal props and maximum expression.

We were all fascinated by the play. Many scenes were so intense that some of us were genuinely startled – especially when the characters suddenly shouted or moved violently. But this only made the experience more thrilling. The acting was impressive throughout, and it was exciting to see how much emotion and tension the actors could create with such a simple stage setup.

One of the highlights was the Q&A session at the end, where we could ask the actors questions about their roles, their preparation, and what it’s like to perform for students in different countries. Their answers gave us an interesting look behind the scenes.

For many students, this theater visit was a true highlight of the school year.
