On December 19th, 2025, students of the FOS Obernburg had the opportunity to attend a live performance of The Great Gatsby in the Stadthalle Obernburg. The play was presented in English by the White Horse Theatre. It was an exciting and impressive experience for the students of our school. The story is set in the 1920s in the United States, a time known as the “Roaring Twenties.” It follows the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, who throws luxurious parties every weekend. However, behind his wealth and glamour lies a deeper story. Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan, a married woman from his past. He hopes to win her back and recreate the past, but this dream slowly leads to disappointment and tragedy.
The play explores important themes such as love, ambition, wealth, illusion, and the American Dream. The actors managed to bring the complex story to life in a clear and engaging way. Even though the stage design was rather simple, the performance was full of energy and emotion. The characters were portrayed convincingly, which made it easy to understand their motivations and conflicts.
One highlight of the event was the Q&A session at the end. Students had the chance to ask questions about the actors’ preparation and their experiences performing for young audiences all over Europe. This gave us interesting insights behind the scenes. Overall, the performance was very well done and easy to follow, even though the language was English. The White Horse Theatre once again proved that literature can be exciting and relevant for young people.
